Power of Prayer & Act of Faith…

Two days before the arrival of the Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which is considered to be the most powerful of all Super Typhoons this 2013 and officially the fourth strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded in world history, there are already several and repeated warnings issued through television and radio programs about the possible devastation it will bring to the Philippines particularly those in the Visayas region.

Government officials and the Filipino people themselves helped each other in the preparation for the landfall of typhoon Yolanda. In every crisis like this, the ‘Bayanihan’ culture of Filipinos is evident and very powerful. Moreover, what really amazing about Filipino people is their deep and strong faith to God that even during dreadful and horrifying catastrophe, you can sense in their faces their inner stillness, hearts full of hope, genuine care and love for each other. Through their smile, one can say that they can face the most terrifying disasters that this world can give them because they believe and trust that the Lord God will always be there to comfort, protect and help them stand up again to face the world with pride and dignity.

If I may quote the statement of CNN about Filipino people;

“Time to get to know the Filipino people… unbelievable resilient, long suffering, good natured, uber friendly, loyal, ingenius, and a bunch of survivors.

At the end of the day, the Filipinos will just shake off the dirt from their clothes and go about their business… and SMILE. They do not complain much, they will bear as long as they can.

Maybe this is why they were given the “privilege” of bearing the burden of the strongest typhoon ever recorded.

The indomitable human spirit at its finest.”

Another admirable trait of Filipinos is their high regard and value of “family”. Their houses were dragged and torn down by heavy storm surges and strong winds, many properties and sources of livelihoods were destroyed. However, their focus and main priority is to bring their loved ones to safety and be with each other no matter what happens. They understand that eternal riches are much more important than temporary and mundane wealth.

Prayer and act of faith produces an inner power and strength that can become a permanent weapon against all odds. Faith that God loves us so much and He never and will never intend to harm His creations as the Scripture says;

“‘For I knows the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”         – Jeremiah 29:11
